FreeBSD port (Proposal)

#1

Why?

It’s time for a FreeBSD port.

How much?

DevOps pipeline one-time setup - 6645.84302518775 SMART
Maintenance - 3322.92151259387 SMART per release

Exchange rate used: https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/smartcash

What?

I’d like to setup CD/CI pipeline for SMART to maintain an amd64 freebsd pkg repository.

Milestones?

  • Create port - 1 day
  • Submit port ( possible revisions ) - ??? depends on the freebsd ports team

A quote from their porter handbook. "After submitting the port, please be patient. The time needed to include a new port in FreeBSD can vary from a few days to a few months. A simple search form of the Problem Report database can be searched at https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/query.cgi."

Outcomes?

Once the the freebsd team accepts our contribution, everybody using freebsd will be able to install the SMART binaries or compile the port themselves.

Why you?

Passionate FreeBSD veteran and automatization enthusiast.

I was wondering if we see any interest before commenting. It looks like we don’t have much interest. You still can compile the node wallets for FreeBSD, but it isn’t as easy as having a packaged installer like you are proposing.

If you provide the commands to install the python and other dependencies needed for Electrum in FreeBSD, we can add them on the Electrum install instructions.

It’s a shame because I’m convinced that being added to the BSD ports would result in additional exposure. Currently BTC, XMR, QTUM etc. are all part of it.
