Smart Wallet Not Working. How to Reinstall Wallet Without Losing My Smart Coins?

#1

I purchased some SMART from HitBTC on 1/6/18. Later that day I downloaded “smartcash-1.0.2-win64-setup.exe” and “SMARTbootstrap.zip.” The wallet took some time to “sync” to the blockchain network, but when it finally updated, I was able to successfully transfer my SMART from HitBTC to my Smart Wallet. Note: I never did encrypt my wallet (mainly because at the time I didn’t know I was supposed to do this). I’m new in the crypto world. How does a person know exactly what to do when setting up a wallet if specific instructions are not provided?

In any event, on 1/21/2018 I decided to update my smart wallet. As soon as I started my smart wallet, I received the following message: “Corrupted block database detected. Do you want to rebuild the block database now?” I selected “OK” and after around 6 hours the wallet got to “12 days behind” and never updated totally. So I exited the Smart Wallet, started it again, and received this message again: “Corrupted block database detected. Do you want to rebuild the block database now?” This is the current status of my smart wallet.

Question #1. How do I reinstall the smart wallet (along with the bootstrap file) without deleting or losing all of my smart coins?

While the block database was rebuilding (as described above), I backed up my smartcash wallet for the first time (it is a .dat file that is only 112 KB in size). Question #2. Is this “small” size .dat file an indication that my wallet was NOT fully backed up? If so, what can I do about this?

As mentioned above, I never encrypted my wallet. Question #3. Is it possible to reinstall the smart wallet (along with the bootstrap file) without having a private key (AND without losing my smart coins)?

The bottom line is that I have smart coins in a smart wallet that is not working. How do I fix this?

As stated above, I am new in the crypto world. As a result, I need clearly stated information so I can understand what is being said. Please answer my questions in complete sentences and please give specific step-by-step instructions that address my questions. Thank you very much.

I’m new too and I’m using Linux. I’ll have to try the windows wallet in a vm and maybe I can help. There should be a hidden file called wallet your wallet and i believe that’s the one that you need to back up or something. It will take a while for me to set up the wallet in windows but I’ll see what I can do. Hopefully somebody can help you faster than I can.

Hi Hoangton,

Thank you for your responses but you, like so many others, have fallen into the trap of geek-speak: you simply assume people know exactly what you are talking about, and therefore you don’t explain things fully. For instance, you wrote “in case you want to run smartnode…” Exactly what is “smartnode” and exactly how do we access it? Once we access it, exactly what do we do with it?

You wrote “in case you want to run smartnode: need have txindex=1 in smartcash.conf.” Again, you have to explain what you are talking about to a person who knows nothing about smartcash and nothing about wallets. I assume you meant that we should type “txindex=1” in “smartcash.conf” but where do we find “smartcash.conf”?

You wrote: “Note for Ubuntu user In case you have install smartcash wallet before via ppa now you can update it with 1 line of text in terminal”

What is “Ubuntu” and what is “ppa”? Please take the time to clearly say what you are talking about.

Let me explain what is needed. I have a 90-year old aunt who has NEVER turned on a computer. But I guarantee that I can write down exactly how to turn on my computer, when and how to enter my password, and how she can navigate to a certain folder and open a specific file. This is exactly what is needed in instructions like you have provided. Novices simply don’t know all the terms and jargon that you use in your explanations.

Is there anyone out there who can explain all of this in clearer detail?

Dont worry about SmartNode this is a very complicated wallet setup that gives you rewards if you have 10K SMART to spare.

if you want to install the latest wallet version here

https://smartcash.cc/wallets/

here is the bootstrap

http://proteanx.com/txindexstrap.zip

first close wallet
type start
type %appdata%
go to smatcash folder remove all the files execpt the wallet.dat file make sure you keep a backup of this file
then copy bootstrap files into folder
start wallet

on the other hand you should use the webwallet it is much easier to use

I like vexel crypto wallet which doesn’t have any problems like that. There you can buy crypto using your debit/credit card instantly or withdraw it & fiat funds to external wallets and bank accounts.
